Jeronimo Road Widening Project

The City’s contractor, All American Asphalt, began construction on the Jeronimo Road Widening Project on Monday, April 28.  The project will widen southbound Jeronimo Road at Lake Forest Drive by approximately three feet to create an eight-foot-wide bike lane/de facto southbound right-turn lane.  Generally, the scope of work will include utility relocation, demolition, grading, street lighting and traffic signal work, parkway reconstruction, street paving, and traffic striping.  Traffic control devices will be set up to allow construction work to begin at 7:00 a.m. in consideration of the nearby Serrano Intermediate School.  The City’s team has also reached out to the adjacent residential HOA to inform them of the City’s construction project.

As part of the same contract, All American Asphalt will also construct the Rancho Parkway & Lake Forest Drive Street Improvements and Los Alisos Boulevard & Rockfield Boulevard Intersection Improvements.  All three of these projects are being funded by the Lake Forest Transportation Mitigation (“LFTM”) Program, which established a list of citywide transportation improvements to maintain adequate levels of service on the city’s arterial street system.  The entire construction contract is scheduled to be completed by this Fall.

Cañada Road Paving

The City’s contractor, LCR Earthwork & Engineering, will pave Cañada Road from Lake Forest Drive to Dimension Drive beginning on Monday, May 5.  Due to the narrow width of the street, temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted, and vehicles will be restricted to one-way only traffic during the construction hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.  The contractor has also been required to have professional traffic control personnel in the field to direct traffic for additional safety measures.  The City’s consultant inspector will also be on-site to ensure that the approved traffic control plan is adhered to.

The sequence of the work on Cañada Road is scheduled as follows:

• Monday (5/5) – Perform localized asphalt repairs in the worst areas.
• Tuesday (5/6) – Grind the entire length of Cañada Road in each direction.
• Wednesday (5/7) – Pave full street width from Dimension Drive to 800 feet southerly.
• Thursday (5/8) – Pave southbound Cañada Road to Lake Forest Drive.
• Friday (5/9) – Pave northbound Cañada Road toward Dimension Drive.

Utility adjustments and traffic striping work will be performed the following week but will not have the traffic impacts caused by the street paving work.  Changeable message signs were installed at both ends of Cañada Road two weeks ago to alert motorists of the upcoming paving work.  Additionally, the City’s team has informed the residential communities and commercial businesses on Cañada Road, police and fire department staff, and coordinated with CR&R to maintain trash pick-up service.
